Exploration Activities

Block 5
The Hydrocarbons Exploration Licence has been granted to the consortium of ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Cyprus (Offshore) Limited / QatarEnergy International E&P LLC since 10 December 2021. The Operator of the Block is ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Cyprus (Offshore) Limited.

The current Block area is equal to 3,416 square kilometres.
Drilling operations:

  • “Elektra-1” exploration well spudded on 23 January 2025 at the Elektra prospect and drilling activities are underway.
    The Block area is covered with 2D and 3D seismic surveys. Geological and geophysical studies are underway.

Block 6
The Hydrocarbons Exploration Licence has been granted to the consortium of Eni Cyprus Limited / TotalEnergies EP Cyprus B.V. since 6 April 2017. The operator of the Block is Eni Cyprus Limited.

The current Block area is equal to 3,420 square kilometres.

Drilling operations:

  • “Calypso-1” exploration well drilled from 31 December 2017 to 8 February 2018 and natural gas discovered.
  • “Cronos-1” exploration well drilled from 4 June 2022 to 21 August 2022 and natural gas discovered.
  • “Zeus-1” exploration well drilled from 23 August 2022 to 21 December 2022 and natural gas discovered.
  • “Cronos-2” appraisal well drilled from 5 November 2023 to 10 February 2024 and a DST was conducted.

The current evaluation of best estimate gas-in-place resources of Cronos discovery is 3.1 Tcf (as of 2025) and of Zeus discovery is 2.5 Tcf (as of 2022). Calypso discovery is under evaluation.

The Block area is covered with 2D and 3D seismic surveys. The appraisal works on the discoveries are underway.

Block 7
The Hydrocarbons Exploration Licence has been granted to the consortium of TotalEnergies EP Cyprus B.V. / Eni Cyprus Limited since 18 September 2019. The Operator of the Block is TotalEnergies EP Cyprus B.V.

The current Block area is equal to 4,560 square kilometres.

The Block area is covered with 2D and 3D seismic surveys. Geological and geophysical studies are underway.

Block 8
The Hydrocarbons Exploration Licence has been granted to the consortium of Eni Cyprus Limited / TotalEnergies EP Cyprus B.V. since 6 April 2017.

The Operator of the Block is Eni Cyprus Limited.

The current Block area is equal to 4,560 square kilometres. The Block area is covered with 2D and 3D seismic surveys. Geological and geophysical studies are underway.

Block 10
The Hydrocarbons Exploration Licence has been granted to the consortium of ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Cyprus (Offshore) Limited / QatarEnergy International E&P LLC since 5 April 2017. The Operator of the Block is ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Cyprus (Offshore) Limited.

The current Block area is equal to 1,927 square kilometres.

Drilling operations:

  • “Delphyne-1” exploration well drilled from 2 December 2018 to 2 January 2019. The well did not encounter commercial quantities of hydrocarbons.
  • “Glaucus-1” exploration well drilled from 11 January 2019 to 4 March 2019 and natural gas discovered.
  • “Glaucus-2” appraisal well drilled from 21 December 2021 to 21 March 2022 and a DST was conducted.

The current evaluation of best estimate gas-in-place resources of Glaucus discovery is 3.7 Tcf (as of 2022).

The Block area is covered with 2D and 3D seismic surveys. The appraisal works on the discovery are underway.

Block 11
The Hydrocarbons Exploration Licence has been granted to the consortium of TotalEnergies EP Cyprus B.V. / Eni Cyprus Limited since 6 February 2013. The Operator of the Block is TotalEnergies EP Cyprus B.V.

The current Block area is equal to 1,472 square kilometres.

Drilling operations:

  • “Onesiphoros-1” exploration well drilled from 21 July 2017 to 14 September 2017. The well did not encounter commercial quantities of hydrocarbons.

The Block area is covered with 2D and 3D seismic surveys. Geological and geophysical studies are underway.

Block 12 - "Aphrodite" Natural Gas Field
The Hydrocarbons Exploration Licence was granted on 24 October 2008. After the approval of the Development and Production Plan, a Hydrocarbons Exploitation Licence has been granted to the consortium of Chevron Cyprus Limited / NewMed Energy Limited Parthnership / BG Cyprus Limited since 7 November 2019. The Operator of the Block is Chevron Cyprus Limited.

The current Exploitation area is equal to 386 square kilometres.

Drilling operations:

  • “Cyprus A-1” exploration well drilled from 20 September 2011 to 13 January 2012 and natural gas discovered.
  • “Cyprus A-2” appraisal well drilled from 18 June 2013 to 21 September 2013 and a DST was conducted.
  • “Cyprus A-3” appraisal well drilled from 1 May 2023 to 19 July 2023.

The current evaluation of best estimate gas-in-place resources of Aphrodite field is 5.6 Tcf (as of 2023).

The Block area is covered with 2D and 3D seismic surveys. The modifications to the Development and Production Plan for the Aphrodite Field were approved in February 2025.
